THE IMPORTANCE OF ANIMAL ORAL CARE

Happy Smiling Dog Looking Away
Animals use their mouths for more than just eating; they use them to play and experience the world around them. When their oral health is compromised, they may experience pain and become irritable. As such, good dental care is an important factor in the happiness of your pet. Give your furry friend the best chance at happiness and health by scheduling a dental checkup with Stones River Veterinary Hospital.

WHEN TO BRING YOUR PET IN

In addition to annual checkups, you should bring your animal in to see us if you notice any of the following problems:

  • Bad breath
  • Broken teeth
  • Loose teeth
  • Retained baby teeth
  • Extra teeth
  • Discoloration on the teeth
  • Bleeding or swelling of the mouth
  • Abnormal chewing
  • Drooling
  • Refusal to eat
  • Reduced appetite
  • Pain around oral cavity
  • Irritability

These symptoms are usually indicative of a dental problem. Don’t allow your pet to live with pain and discomfort. If you notice any of the signs listed above or anything else that concerns you, bring your animal to us as soon as possible.

Each of our doctors are able to perform oral surgery in addition to soft tissue procedures. During the anesthetic process, our patients are monitored with the same equipment humans are monitored with when they undergo anesthesia. While there is always the potential for complications, we do our best to mitigate any risk to your pet through pre-anesthetic health screenings and proper monitoring procedures from surgical intake all the way to recovery. During a surgical appointment, your pet will have a doctor and at least 2 trained surgical assistants or technicians dedicated to his/her care.
